Ragging River

This is a clip that I took underneath the pedestrian bridge at the North Ave. Dam. The sound is one continues noise with no variation. I wanted to capture the power of moving water.

Little ripples in the ragging river

This clip is of water slowly hitting the shoreline near the North Street Bridge. I found this clip to be the most interesting because it is not an easy noise to pick up when the river is ragging 10 feet out.

Birds n Horns

This clip was taken near the same location as my last clip. You can still here the helicopter but the focus is more on the birds. There were a whole bunch of birds chirping but I never actually found them. Click to listen

Chopper in the sky

The second interesting sound I picked up was on Brady across from the Walgreens. There was a helicopter hovering near the lake. It was to small to pick up on camera but definitely load enough to pick up on the mic.

Vacant marina

The first place I stopped at on my walk was at the McKinley marina. There was not a huge variety of sounds. Besides the hum of wind and traffic the noises were all related to what I expected to here at a marina. I picked up the sounds of seagulls, crows, and birds hanging out under a dock. The most interesting noise I heard was the noise of rope hitting flagpole on one the Sailboats.

Drift map

This is a map that shows the route I took as I made my way from the lake through town and along the river.

Drift One Strategy

I will be starting my walk down at veterans park. From there I will zigzag (in a right left right left) pattern until I reach the river. Once I find access to get onto the river I will head north on or alongside the river until I reach Hartford street area. I chose this path for a number of reasons. I consider the lakefront around veterans park one area, the walk through the city by brady street another area, and the river as the last area. All three of these areas are places that I spend alot of time at and rarely pay attention to the sounds I hear. I have not decided what time of day I would like to do this walk. Both day and night have there advantages. I think this route will provide a great variety of sound as well as some exercise.
